WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS. I RECOMMEND YOU TO WATCH THE MOVIE CUS IT ROCKS LIKE HELL. IF YOU READ IT, YOU WON'T WATCH IT. IF YOU DON'T WATCH IT, YOU WON'T ENJOY THE WHOLE THING. THE END. REVIEW IS AFTER THE TWO BLOCKQUOTES.An elderly woman named Gothel witnesses a single drop of pure sunlight hit the ground, creating a magical flower with the ability to keep herself young when she sings to it. Centuries later, the queen of a nearby kingdom falls ill while expecting a child. Her guards find the mysterious flower, hidden by Gothel, and bring it to the queen. The flower heals the queen and she gives birth to a girl named Rapunzel, who comes to inherit the flower's magic through her long golden hair. One night, Gothel kidnaps Rapunzel and isolates her in a tower as her own daughter, to continue to preserve her youth. However, every year on Rapunzel's birthday, the kingdom sends floating lanterns into the sky longing for their lost princess to return.
Eighteen years later, Rapunzel is seen in her tower playing with her companion Pascal, a chameleon. She dreams of what is outside, claiming she lives the same routine every day ("When Will My Life Begin?"). Later, when Gothel arrives, Rapunzel tells her that she wishes to see these annual floating lights that appear on her birthday, but Gothel rejects her by telling Rapunzel that the world is a dangerous place ("Mother Knows Best"). Meanwhile, the thief Flynn Rider and his twin thug accomplices heist the tiara of the missing princess from the castle. As they flee, Flynn abandons the twins, allowing the pursuing castle guards to capture them. During the fiasco, the lead guard's horse, Maximus, is separated from his rider and continues the search for Flynn on his own.
Flynn happens upon Rapunzel's tower to hide in, only to be held captive by Rapunzel. Rapunzel hides Flynn, hoping to prove to Gothel that she is able to take care of herself. When Gothel returns and Rapunzel brings up the subject of seeing the lights again, Gothel angrily insists that she will never leave before she can show her Flynn. Instead, Rapunzel asks for a birthday gift which will require Gothel to leave on a three-day journey. After she leaves, Rapunzel makes a deal with Flynn -- if he escorts her to the lights and back, she will return the tiara. Flynn agrees as Rapunzel is excited to be free, but Rapunzel is soon conflicted between the elation from the new experience and the guilt of disobedience. Meanwhile, Gothel crosses paths with Maximus and realizes a royal horse without a rider could lead to the discovery of Rapunzel. She returns to find Rapunzel gone, but finds the tiara hidden in a bag under the stairs.
The pair arrive at the Snuggly Duckling, a seedy pub filled with thugs. However, the thugs recognize Flynn from a wanted poster and plan to turn him in, but Rapunzel confronts the men stating that she needs Flynn to complete her dream of seeing the lights. The thugs decide to help her as they too have unfinished dreams ("I've Got A Dream"). Gothel watches through a window, but before she can do anything, the royal guards enter and pursue Flynn and Rapunzel to a wooden dam where the two hide in a closed-off cave. Maximus causes the dam to break and the surrounding area and the cave begin to flood. Thinking that they will die, Flynn reveals to Rapunzel that his real name is actually Eugene Fitzherbert, and she admits that her hair glows when she sings. Realizing that it would light the cave, she sings and the cave is illuminated as they swim to a loosened clump of rocks and escape. Meanwhile, Gothel finds the thieving twins and offers them something worth much more than the tiara, along with revenge on Flynn.
That night, Rapunzel heals Flynn's hand ("Healing Incantation"), which was injured in their escape, with her hair, and explains that if her hair is cut, it loses its power and turns brown. As Flynn goes to collect firewood, Gothel appears and pleads with Rapunzel to return to the tower, but Rapunzel refuses as she now has a liking for Flynn. Gothel gives Rapunzel the tiara in the bag and says that Flynn is only interested in it and will leave Rapunzel after he gets it ("Mother Knows Best (Reprise)"). The next morning, Maximus finds the pair, but Rapunzel is able to strike a truce between him and Flynn as the group arrives at the kingdom for the festival. Everyone gets caught up in the celebration and Rapunzel hears about the missing princess for the first time. That evening, Flynn rows Rapunzel out in a small dingy to the middle of an adjacent lake to gain a good view of the lantern release. He also surprises her with their own lanterns to set free. Rapunzel gives Flynn the tiara saying that she now trusts him. While in the boat, they both realize that they were both dreaming about the wrong thing the entire time and what they really needed was each other ("I See The Light"). Rapunzel and Flynn almost kiss but, Flynn sees the twins on the opposite shore and tells Rapunzel that he will be right back. Flynn apologizes to the twins and returns the tiara, but the twins want Rapunzel instead, since now they know about her magical hair. Moments later, the twins tell Rapunzel that Flynn has abandoned her for the tiara, when in reality the twins have tied Flynn to a boat after knocking him unconscious. However, Gothel betrays them to look like she's rescuing Rapunzel.
Rapunzel returns to her tower room with a gloating Gothel and notices that a flag she collected at the festival looks exactly like the paintings she made all over the tower's interior; the sunburst design is an early memory from her life in the kingdom. Rapunzel realizes that she is the lost princess and confronts Gothel, saying she will never let her use her again. Meanwhile, Flynn is arrested and is sentenced to be hanged, but is instead rescued by the thugs from the Snuggly Duckling, who were alerted by a more trustful Maximus. Flynn and Maximus rush to Rapunzel's tower and find her held captive by Gothel. Gothel stabs Flynn and attempts to leave with a struggling Rapunzel, but Rapunzel tells Gothel that as long as she lets her heal Flynn, she will go away with Gothel willingly. Since Flynn would rather die than have Rapunzel stay trapped, he cuts her hair with a broken shard of glass when she tries to heal him, causing all of it to lose its power. As a result, Gothel begins to quickly age. Before she can do any more harm, Pascal moves the length of hair and makes Gothel trip and fall from the tower; she disintegrates before reaching the ground. With his last breath, Flynn tells Rapunzel that his dream was her and dies in her arms.
The end.
YAY! I LOVE SAD ENDINGS, DON'T YOU?
...
FINE, it isn't the end.
Heartbroken, Rapunzel sings the incantation one last time as her tears fall on Flynn's wound. The tears suddenly heal Flynn, returning him to life and they kiss at last. Later, Flynn returns Rapunzel to meet her overjoyed parents and they eventually get married. The kingdom releases lanterns into the sky once more and celebrates along with the thugs, who finally fulfill their dreams, and Maximus, who becomes the head of the royal guard.
LOL.
You know, I find the movie good. Plot is good, and it made me laugh almost to death, haha. I'd rate it a 4 out of 5. lol, it is REALLY funny. That kind of comedy. I mean, it was funny MOST OF THE TIME, which is great. Only one or two jokes won't do much.
And there's the action. I actually imagined myself being Flynn and wondering if I'd get hurt, haha. I REALLY LOVE THE ACTION AND COMEDY. And adventure of course.
BUT there's the romance... How do you say... I HATE Romance but well this IS a freaking fairytale. And fairytales never had a sad ending.
By the way, I observed Gothel's voice. I mean, when she shouts, she seemed a little... TIMID. She yelled at Rapunzel, it doesn't really SOUND real. Just for the sake of telling though.
... I wish Flynn would die though. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! lol. No. I actually wished they'd never fall in love. It makes the whole thing look ridiculous.
lol end of review.
............. I WANNNNNAA WATCH DESPICABLE MEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
